Underlay is a thin layer of cushioning, made of materials such as sponge rubber, foam, felt or crumb rubber, which is laid beneath carpeting and laminate flooring to provide comfort underfoot, and to reduce wear on the carpet, underlay also provides insulation against sound, moisture and heat.

The innovative Cloud 9 Underlay range was voted No 1 by the U.K. carpet trade. Included in this range are the universal Cloud 9 Underlay Contract, Cloud 9 Underlay Super Contract and Cloud 9 Underlay Flame Retardant 4, 6 & 8 products for use in stretch fit and double-stick applications in both domestic and contract locations. The Cloud 9 Underlay Flame Retardant range is particularly suited for use in shipping installations.

APT Foam underlay is popular because they are easy to handle and they cut and fit with ease. APT Foam underlay products also have excellent thermal insulation and sound impact reduction qualities and include the brand leading Cloud 9 underlay range.

Do NOT use carpet underlay for laminate. Laminate underlay comes in two basic forms, fibre boards, or foam. Laminate underlay is designed to allow a certain amount of flexing, importantly they are also designed to help prevent "drumming" which is the noise you make walking over the laminate. Carpet underaly is designed to add spring, which will break the joints on laminate. Always use foam underlay as you can bring it up the wall by 15mm as recommended. This helps prevent any damp ingressing into the laminate boards.

Airstep Underlay is available in 7mm, 9mm and 11 mm. Airstep Underla is a APT Foam underlay and has a luxury use rating. Airstep underlay is ideal for use in domestic use areas where a fitting with a high degree of comfort is required. Airstep Underlay is manufactured by Simply Underlay on our own premises to a very high standard and is guaranteed for the life of the carpet.
